10 Ways to Strengthen Your Faith

Do you feel distant and lost? Are you looking to make a change that will bring you closer to the creator of the world? If so do we have a plan for you! With just a few payments of…… Just kidding, that is not what this post is about. This post is a list of a few ways that worked for me in my journey to strengthen my faith. I share them in the hopes that it may help someone else but we are all in that together and I need your help as well. First, if you find truth in any of these ways and start putting them into practice I would love to hear about your progress. Second, if you have any other ways to strengthen your faith that I have not covered, please share them with the community in the comments below.

  • Dedicated time with God daily through prayer, reading, and sharing His love with others. We are in a relationship with God and that relationship requires work. You would never expect to only talk to your significant other or best friend only when you need something and expect to receive it without hesitation, but when it comes to God we often do exactly that. God wanted to be a part of your daily life, not just the call you make when things get tough.

Revelations 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”

  • Keep a prayer journal, this is a great way to see how God is moving in your life and the lives of others. Check out our Prayer Journal post for more resources on how to get started.

1 John 5:14, “ This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.”

  • Create a community of believers around you that you can share your struggles with. Be vulnerable and open with one another asking for prayers and sharing your praises.

Colossians 3:13, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

  • Find a church home where you feel comfortable to worship and learn more about God. This should be a place that you look forward to going to every week to be challenged and feed.

Hebrews 10:25, “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

  • Cut out bad influences in your life like inappropriate tv shows, movies, and music. If you would not feel comfortable watching or listen to it with your mom or grandmother then you probably shouldn’t have that influence in your life.

Matthew 18:9, “And if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.”

  • Devote time to rest and renewal. Although this may feel uncomfortable it is important to take time to refuel your tank. Taking time to rest and restore your soul is almost as important as breathing because when we are weighed down with burdans we cannot serve God and others.

Psalm 127:2, “It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.”

  • Nourish your body through eating right and working out. I am not saying you need to drastically change your diet and workout plan but you should be mindful of what you put into your body and how often you spend being active.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.”

  • Pour into others by serving and helping others every chance you get. In doing this it allowed you to be the source in which God used to show His grace and love to others.

Hebrews 13:16, “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

  • Give yourself some grace. Many of us hold ourselves to a very high standard and expect perfection but the reality is that we are only human and we make mistakes. When we fall short we should simple ask for forgiveness and allow ourselves to grow from that experience.

Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

  • Share your God-given gifts and talents. Each of us has a passion and a gift that God has blessed us with. That gift is not solely for our personal benefit but for the benefit of all. We should be putting that talent to work for the benefit of the kingdom of God.

1 Peter 4:10-11, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.”
