Have you ever felt guilty about not spending enough time reading or studying God’s word? Join the club, just this week I was struggling with this. I am at the beach with my family that I don’t get to see very often and I was feeling torn between spending time with them and spending time with God. I knew I would have a few minutes here and there to pray and reflect on God but I was not going to be able to do my normal routine. At first, I felt guilty about choosing family and my vacation over God, but when I took the time to think about how much importance the Bible placed on family and rest I felt like it was okay. God does not want us to feel like it is just an obligation to spend time with Him, He wants us to choose Him and choose to get to know Him better. He doesn't want us to spend a few hours with Him daily just because we are told we should, no He wants us to want to be with Him.

This brought me to the question, "Is there only one way to connect to God?", and the answer is no. God created everything and because of this everything is designed to draw us closer to Him. I believe, there are thousands of ways to connect and be in community with God. For me, I have always felt a deep connection to God when I look at the beauty of nature; the mountains that rise up out of the ground and the waves that crash on the shore. I also feel God in the blessing of my family and the love and dedication we have for one another. So for me, being able to be at the beach and see the beauty of nature and spend time with my family ends up being a great way for me to connect to God.
In what way do you connect to God outside of the typical reading, praying, and studying? Please share in the comments below.
With all of that being said, I still believe that it is of the utmost importance to dedicate time to building your relationship with God by studying what He can teach us through His word, But sometimes it is okay to take a break from our studies and spend time in God’s creation and connect to Him in a different way.
