How To Be Spirit Led

As a Christian blogger, you can imagine that there are some weeks I find it harder to write than others. Most of my content comes from something that stood out to me in a church service, my bible study, or something God is speaking to me at that moment in my life. Unfortunately, still, there are many times when I sit down to write the weekly blog my mind goes blank and I am not sure what I am going to do. My goal is to create content that is going to impact the heart of all believers who read it. I want to make posts that are what the people of God need to hear and not just some random stuff that pops into my brain on a weekly occasion. I pray that everything you read on My Christian Walk is from God and not from me. In order to create this kind of content, I have to give up my way and be willing to listen to the calling of God and just put pen to paper or in my case just start pecking away on the keyboard. In other words, I have to allow the Spirit of God to lead. This hasn’t always been easy but, I have found that many times when I allow the post to be Spirit led they end up going in a completely different direction than what I first intended because it was what needed to be written.
Over many years as a believer, I have found the same can be said for life in general. We make certain plans and do our best to make every right turn to achieve them. We have our way in mind but forget to allow God to lead the way for us. We have God in the car with us on our journey but instead of letting Him drive we put Him in the backseat and ignore all of His instructions as we do with most backseat drivers. Sure we might eventually get to the same end goal but when we drive we hit every slowdown, pothole, and animal crossing along the way. If we would just let the Spirit of God lead us we would be much better off and arrive in better conditions than otherwise.
God has given us everything we need to live the life He has created for us and one of the main parts of that life is having a personal advocate and advisor that lives within our hearts. I am of course speaking to the Holy Spirit which is the third part of the Trinity. Personally, I believe that the Holy Spirit is the most overlooked part of the Trinity. We all know and respect God and Jesus Christ for what they have done for us but we overlook the Holy Spirit as our guide from day to day. John 16:13 tells us, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” Through this verse, we learn that the Holy Spirit speaks for God in our lives and He guides us based off of what is God’s ways. The Holy Spirit is the link that connects us and God while we are living in this world. Each part of the trinity is as important as the others. Without the Holy Spirit in us, we would be like lost sheep that didn’t know that way. Those sheep are prone to danger because they don’t know the right way. If you are like me you have felt lost in the path of your life, you have felt like a lost sheep just trying to find the way. Through that, we learn that the only way to be truly found is to walk where the Spirit leads.
Once we are found, we are to walk in the way of the Lord and be Spirit-led. The question then becomes, what does it mean to be Sprit-led? Once we are found, we are to walk in the way of the Lord and be Spirit-led. The question then becomes, what does it mean to be Sprit-led? It is a common misconception that being Spirit-led means that you just do whatever you are told and don’t give much thought to your actions. This could not be further from the truth, to really be Spirit-led you must be in tune with the teaching of the Lord. You must be trying to hear what God is telling you to do. Sometimes He is very forward with exactly what you need to do and other times He whispers and we much put a lot of focus into hearing Him.
I have found that the easiest way to be spirit led is by doing the following things. First, we should pay attention to the details. This is the easiest but also the most overlooked way to follow the Spirit. The details give us an understanding of what we are getting ourselves into. This way, we can determine if it is the right path for us. The second way is to take those details and listen to our hearts and our heads. God has given us a sense of right and wrong for this reason. If there are any red flags or feelings of hesitation then God might be telling us to take a harder look at the path we are on. Thirdly, we should take advantage of our resources such as reading the Bible and seeking advice from Godly advisors. There is a reason why He has given us these resources and it is silly if we don’t take advantage of them. The last way is quite simple… simply ask God to speak directly into your situation. He is the only one who knows the way and with His help, we will know that nothing can go wrong.
In closing let me leave you with this, if the Spirit is leading you to make a change or try something different, it is in your best interest to do so. The Spirit knows the way in which we should go because He is receiving His instructions for God Himself. God has big plans for all of our lives and the best way to get on that path is to allow yourself to be led by the Spirit of God.
