You Are Worth It!

I am enough because God makes me enough

Where do you find your worth? Is it from what the people of the world say or are you letting the Father define who you are? Although we would all like to say that we let God define our worth, it is very often that we let the opinions of others determine how we feel about ourselves. The process of finding your worth is something most people struggle with throughout their entire lives. As kids, we don’t worry about our worth, but once we get to high school and college, we have more independence and start defining what makes us different.

In the post below, Campbell a first-year college student shares her struggles in finding her worth as all of her friends moved away to different schools. She learned that no matter other’s opinions of you, God’s opinion never changes. He always sees us as His beloved children who are worth the cost.

Like many who struggle with finding their worth, I also fall into that category. When trying to find out what was best for me after high school, I decided to stay home and take classes at the community college near me. This was a hard decision because early in the summer I found out all my classes would be online, and I would not be going to campus at all. I knew it was going to be very hard because I would have very few opportunities to make new friends. I struggled as I watched my other friends go off to college and make new friends. They were thriving in a new environment, and I was still at home struggling to find new friends.

Early on in my first semester, I got very down about my situation and had a hard first time, but that didn’t come close to the struggles I faced in the second semester. With all of my classes being online, I experienced firsthand isolation and loneliness. When I started to feel lonely my self-worth also started to decline. I was relying on other people to define my worth. I was putting my worth in if people wanted to hang out with me or if they show interest in my life. I had to continue to remind myself that other people do not define my worth.

After a long time searching for my worth in others, the Lord reminded me that my worth is not in other people but Him alone. He died on the cross for ME, and it hurts Him to see me rely on others instead of Him. As Psalm 28:7-8 states,

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.”

He will allow you to see your worth and help you in the time of need. Finding your worth in God and not others is not easy to do, but do not be hard on yourself if you are struggling with your worth. I still need the Lord to remind me constantly of my worth, this has been a hard journey, but I urge you to allow the Lord to speak over your insecurity and allow Him to work in you.

Scripture says a lot about how God sees us. He tells us, we are His masterpiece, a new creation, a chosen race, royal priesthood, and a holy nation.

Foe we are God's masterpiece. Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesian 2:10

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

When we choose to let others define our worth we are saying what God has created in us is not enough. If you are currently struggling with finding your worth, I would suggest a few things.

  1. Read what God says about your worth

  2. Write down these verses and put them in a place you can see them daily

  3. Pray that God will transform your heart so you can see yourself as He does

  4. Talk to a pastor, priest, spiritual mentor, or Christian friend about your struggle

Below are a few verses that tell us who God says we are;

You're Worth It.
