Poison To The Soul

When you read a subject line like poison to the soul, I am sure you have a few thoughts that pop into your head of what it could be.  Many of those thoughts are probably right in line with what I believe is the true poison that affects not only our lives but our souls.  I believe that poison is negativity that puts a dark cloud over everything we do and can cause us to be bitter and angry about things that are really quite small.  Negativity is a fundamental poison that affects every part of our lives and even the lives of those around us.

Take a moment to think about a time in your life when things felt a little more heavy.  A time when you allowed negativity to control your emotions. My guess is that experience only progressed the more negativity you allowed to seep in. In my experience, I have seen this happen in my life many times. I allow an experience or a person to affect my mood and to turn my emotions towards bitterness and anger instead of choosing to see it as an opportunity for growth.  For example when a boss or manager seems to never be happy about your progress, that doesn’t make you want to work harder, instead it makes you want to complain typical to others which only puts negativity into their soul as well.

It is important to remember that God did not create us to be negative people, but that also doesn’t mean that we have a blind positivity about everything that is happening. There are many ungodly things that happen in our world that we shouldn’t feel positive about, but we shouldn’t allow those things to change the way we look at everything in this life.  Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”  We are to be a light of positivity in the dark negativity of the world.  That means in the sad times in the world we radiate the light and positivity of God that things will get better. We are to represent that pain exists but it is only temporary since God has won the war for our eternity.

In my opinion, the world is dark, jaded and full of negativity but the Lord God is filled with light, brightness, and positivity.  Whatever we reflect in our daily lives is what we put our trust in.  When we allow negativity to rule over our lives we are surrendering to the will of the world but when we choose positivity over the negativity we accept that God has a plan.

My question for you is are you allowing negative to poison your life and your soul?
